Step up for Moving Magnet cartridge

Hi,
Would it be possible to use a step up transformer to boost the signal of a moving magnet cartridge. It seems think that most of these transformers are tailored for use with MC cartridges?
I would like to get an additional 6db to 9db of gain from my MM cartridge/ phono stage set up.
