Batteries for instant gratification

I, too, like the idea of batteries' isolation, and let's face it, they are easier to, initially, implement for those of us in search of instant gratification!!

Who says you cannot leave the RAKK-DAC on while the batteries are charging, while you are not listening to the unit? This way you keep everything "WARM" and have the advantages(?) of battery operation.

For all of these years we have been led to beleive that AC is ALWAYS bad, or at least, noisy. Tube filaments like AC, but then that is "pure" AC. I am having trouble understanding how any AC to DC then regulation scheme could improve on a BIG battery. The smaller ones can start creeping up in their internal resistance, so it is easy to believe THAT could be bettered. Could one get by with three smaller (6V) batteries, if regulating, instead of one big 12V?

A battery supply, after all is said and done, is not going to be cheaper. So, it must be better to justify the, long term, fiddling!

If one regulates the battery much energy is being thrown away, only to be replaced, and to what end? Can a regulator make that much of a difference? Even compared to a BIG battery? What is the regulator doing that would make a difference? I would think a few high quality caps across the battery would be enough, instead of a regulator, but I am surmising, at best. I guess one of us is going to have to give it a try.

After the first of the year I am going to (finally) purchase the RAKK-DAC. I am going to use a battery initially. After a few months I will try the DAVENPORT MINIMAL REACTANCE supply and HEAR what happens.

Back to batteries: What would be best? A 12V and a 6V in series, or three 6V's in series? Certianly the idea of three equal sized batteries is more "elegant", and one would require a single 6v charger.

Why are some of us fascinated by batteries? I think it goies back to childhood. Like petrified wood, batteries have a mystery about them that for some us, hasn't gone away.

Enough of that,

Rick McInnis
