The load seen by the cartridge is is the input impedance of the phono stage transformed according to the MC transformer step-up ratio. If the voltage step-up ratio of the transformer is 10, then the impedance ratio is 100. So the 47K input impedance of most phono preamps is seen by the cartridge as 47K/100 or 470 ohms. If you want to change this load to 300 ohms, you parallel the 47K input resistor with another resistor, which in combination give 100 x 300 ohms or 30K. This additional resistor is 83K.
