Hi Kevin / Dave
I have yet another question about a combined RAKK DAC and Raleigh linestage.Kevin suggested:
'Why not use an LL1674 (1+1:4+4) in the manner of the passive transformer output stage after the DAC board to get DAC gain, do I/V and do the input phase splitting for the "rest" of the line stage circuit; and for all other inputs (like tuner, phono) switch in a different LL1674 configured for the normal 4:1+1 of Dave's line stage circuit.'I like this idea more and more. When using CD, I would have plenty of gain/output volts and have therefore been considering modifying my power amp into a lowish gain, 2-stage, fully balanced amp.
But, it has occurred to me that when using LP as a source, I would have a much lower output level from the linestage. Apart from the inconvenience of switching volume settings (and the hazard of my girlfriend switching the system to CD without turning the volume down.....), I probably would not have enough signal to drive the power amp.
So my question is, what is the downside of using the (1+1:4+4) input configuration for all inputs? I guess the linestage will present a lower input impedance to the other sources. Any other problems?
Many thanks for your time
Max
