Hi Bas,I don't know what is going on there but let me venture a few thoughts.
My Toshiba 3950 chassis sits at about 60 VAC above the earth ground with no cables connected. When I connect the cable between it and the RAKK dac there is a connection from the 3950 chassis, through the cable to my system ground, which is at earth potential. The RAKK dac is transformer coupled to the input cable so it needs a signal and reference on the cable to drive the transformer. Shielding and earth is picked up on the cable shield.
There exists converter connectors, like with RCA on one side and BNC on the other, available in either gender.
