Rick,I have tested the RAKK dac with recordings I have made myself on a hard drive recorder (the excellent Alesis Masterlink ML-9600, which also makes a very nice, if somewhat unconventional CD transport). Some of these recordings were made at 24 bit / 88.2KHz (PCM) and play back beautifully through the RAKK dac.
The playback of SACDs through the RAKK dac is not possible, first because the PCM1794 is not capable of processing the DSD datastream, and second because there is no DSD datastream available at a connector on the back panel of currently available SACD players. As I understand it, a PCM1792 under microprocessor control would be required to do what you describe and it would have to be "plumbed into" a CD/SACD player to make it work. This makes it a rather more complex project beyond the scope of the RAKK dac.
