Re: Amorphous core transformers and their break in period

Dear Kevin,

You used the term "after a prolonged break in period" regarding your amorphous core output trannies which I would like to query you about.

The output trannies are doing lotsa "work" and yet you still describe a long break in time.

How about the LL-1674 and a LL-1676??

What are peoples' experiences with breakin periods for these specifically? These are run less hard than any output trannie, so I would expect them to have an even longer break in period .

What are users' results, new out of the box and over time, and how does the sound subjectively change over time??

Also, Thorsten Loesch has a method on his website of loading a small trannie with a CD player's signal, and playing music on a "repeat mode" to hasten the break in time of low level trannies. What do you think of that and what are people's experiences in general with amorphous core break in times.

This really should be a separate post. I would like to know more about this please, as I've never seen this addressed here.

I tried Lundahl amorphous mic trannies and, while I heard their marvelous "audiophile" attributes, in general and overall I considered them a-musical and I retired them from use in my circuitry.

Lately I've wondered if it was a case of inadequate break in on my part. WHAT is really required - that has never (to my knowledge) been discussed ?

Thanks.

Jeff Medwin, .....(owner of several unused LL-1674s and 1676s.)
