I just talked to Per Lundahl and found out that the cores have arrived in stock for amorphous versions of the LL1620/1623/1627/1679/9202 output transformers. These use the same coil structures as the models mentioned, but have a Hitachi Metglas iron amorphous core rather than a silicon iron core.I have had a prototype LL1623AM/PP pair installed in my push-pull super 300B monoblocks since Christmas and I can't go back and listen to the silicon iron model anymore. After a prolonged break-in period, music became much less hi-fiish, with substantially better transparency and more apparent bass and treble extension. One friend asked,"Where's the new subwoofer?"
I haven't heard a prototype of a transformer gapped for single-ended use, but other distributors have and report similar sonic results.
The first production batch will be available in about 3 weeks. They will be priced at $325 each and to my ears are worth every penny!
