I don't know if it matters. I have never used the alternative CT "C" connection, but I do ground the "-" input lead for the normal "C" connection.I tried connecting the core/shield ground to both places and could not hear a difference in my system some years ago, but I see your point and think it would be fine to do the grounding this way.
