That is surprising. I have experienced much better results than that. IIRC, in one circuit the -3dB point was in excess of 80kHz. I don't remember what ratio I was using but in trying different ones, it didn't seem to matter much. I used to worry about the ringing and eliminated it with a damping resistor however lately I prefer the sound without the resistor.
