Well, the PCM1738 is a differential current output DAC. That leaves a few interesting possibilities. One can convert the currents to voltages using resistors and couple to the output jacks using a step-up transformer. The LL7902 is not the ideal choice here, because of the relatively low ratio. An LL7903 or LL1674 would be a better choice. Alterntively, one could do the I to V conversion as above and then use an active tube or soild state gain stage followed by an output transformer like the schematic at the bottom of my webpage (www.kandkaudio.com), except using a balanced active stage. This has the advantage of higher output voltage and lower output impedance, but takes some space that might not be available in the player box.
