The best connection from a gain standpoint is connection alternative T on the datasheet. However, it is not anywhere close to giving the best drive conditions for a 300B. I am convinced that to get the full "magic" from a DHT, one needs a low impedance drive stage. I have used 2A3s and 6BX7GTs to drive 300Bs to very good effect. But a two stage amp with one of these tubes will have no gain to speak of, so a third stage is necessary. I have used a 6SN7GT directly coupled to a 6BX7GT that is IT coupled to the PP300Bs. It sounds very nice. You could use your LL1660/18mA in this circuit, too.
