AD1955 and transformer I/V stage

Hello,

My first post on this forum. I'm curently building an AD1955 dac but I don't want to use the datasheet recomanded, active I/V converter (op-amp based). On the other hand I think it's no way that this DAC can have optimal performances (and so use the entire 123dB dynamic range availale) by having a classic, resistor I/V converter.

I like very much Kevin's design and I wonder if the passive output stage with the LL1674 or the active version (with transformer input as on the Raleigh page) could suit the AD1955. The PCM1794 as used in the RAKK DAC Mk.II has 7.8mA p-p output current, while the AD1955 has 8.64mA or so; I think this is a good sign :). I'm more towards the active version as I have some 6H30 around and in long term a 4V at the DAC output could help. But still, I don't know what's the input impendance of the active stage? only 33 ohms as in the primary winding?

So, if anyone has any coments on these things, or even better, some experience with them, would be great :)

Thank you,
Florin
