Hi Tom, another Tom here.This little primer is by Simon Shilton of SJS Electroacoustics in the UK. It made everything clear for me, even good enough that I built some excel files to calculate the time constants and now use them to mock up any phono stages I build.
Don't forget to calculate the series resistance of the tube as part of your RIAA eq. Different tubes (even of the 'same' type) have different plate resistances (Rp) (like ECC35 vs. 6SL7) and their Rp's change with operating point. Look at the Western Electric tube curves for various tubes, and you'll see what I mean.
