Tom,When I was in California in June I stopped by Steve's to listen to his phono preamp and "matrix" amp. Of course, his system was completely foreign to me, but his capacitor-less phono preamp immediately impressed me mightily in two respects: detail recovery (resolution) and noise. The frequency balance also seemed to be good. I think his approach is an excellent one and bears further attention.
The chassis was very compact. Steve wired everything point-to-point almost like a geometric puzzle. You might contact him through his webpage if you have further questions.
