Horn pics and a small problem..........

203.190.196.68

Hi all,

I've built the mouths for the tractrix horns I planned for the Alpha 6. Its now time to build the front chamber, but I have ran into a small problem.

I need to know, how much air is displaced in the front of the cone to the very front of the driver, which I guess is the surround.

I remember freddyi saying the cone/front of basket part takes 10.7 cubic inches, but I need to know how much air is taken in front of the cone, which I'd assume is probably less. My Alphas are arriving next week so I cant measure it myself yet.

In the edgar midrange horn article, it uses spacers in front of the driver, and it said it removed the 500Hz peak and also made the sound more "open" instead of "tunnely and resonant". Can I assume a front chamber does much the same thing as the spacers? For my horn, I needed a volume of 100cm^3 for my front chamber, but I think the air in front of the cone takes MORE than this, so I'm a bit stuck. If I left the front chamber off, would the air in front of the cone act as a "front chamber" anyway? I'm just worried about the "tunnely resonant" sound described in the Edgar Midrange Horn article. Any help is very appreciated !!

Thanks!
Adrian
