Hi everybody, i have built a folded (Z shape) basshorn (mouth 4400 mc^2=682 sq.in, throat 350cm^2= 54sq.in., length 195cm =77in. Hypex with m=0.6, flair rate 42Hz).
Speaker is 15" B&C 15PL40 - requires about the same throat with jbl 2220 acc. to Leach's formula, rolls of earlier-.
Measured impedance is the same as the Hornresp sim, responce a bit down at 50-60 Hz (-3db) from simulation.
But it sounds awfull!!
The throat is a 4,2x12,85in rectangular and the woofer is directly mounted on the baffle with the throat opening (opening centered), like this:
http://www.biokurs.de/15bhorn0.htm
Above the rectangular opening there is a 45 degrees reflector, which unlike the aforementioned construction, starts from the one of the large sides of the rect. and ends 4,2in above the other.
Any ideas, why it sounds like crap? Is the throat shape bad? sould i opt for something like 6"x9".
Does this shape, in conjunction with the very small distance between cone and throat baffle stresses the driver? Or could be the diagonal reflector?
Does anybody has tried something like this?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, it's going to save me a lot of woodwork.
Many thanks in advance
Greetings from Greece
