Hi,
My old Basie kit has been serving me for many years with no problem but during my listening session last week, the output(through Billies) from both channels suddenly dropped to very low level with distortion. Immediately after switching off the preamp power, the sound level almost came back to the normal level gradually and distortion also became lighter until the output faded away completely. I replaced all tubes and everything I could think of but the problem persisted and finally I found out the B+ of Basie is faulty.
Basie transformer is working fine and the voltage right after the rectifier tube is around 270V but the voltage after the choke drops to 12-ish V and the voltage after this point to B+ output is even lower.
Is this an obvious case of faulty choke?
And Brian, if the above is the case, do you still have these chokes?
Thanks,
Peter
