1.the HT wires are Center tapped so it is 200 plus 200 equals 400 V.
2.this is an added grid stop resistor. The step-by-step instruction is correct
3. The step-by-step instructions are correct.if you would like to e-mail me I can send you a circuit diagram that shows some of those details.
4. I would suggest to double check the wiring around the EF 86 cathode anode to make sure that it is conforming to the step-by-step wiring diagrams. None of the above three points seem to relate to the problem.
if you would like to take a close-up picture of the wiring around the EF 86 and send it to me, I'll take a look.
