I have heard the Lux with a passive preamp, the Django TVC, driven by the Satch, sounds superb.

My suggestion is to buy the Budget AVC Do-It-Box Pak that Brian is offering for $360.
Move on to a Django if you like the setup and want to go higher.

I am not sure how your DAC works. I have used a system with a variable output which actually control the volume in the digital domain by sacrificing the resolution (reducing the bits in the digital domain). Newer DACs may employ a different scheme.
