Lux without a Preamp

Is it possible to use the Lux without a preamp?

I'm considering selling my Ella and delving into the world of Lux, however I don't have a preamp and would prefer not to have one.

I have a Beresford DAC which has two outputs, one is straight through but the other has a variable level control. I'm using the DAC right now with a Meridian 206B feeding into it. Could I use the Beresford variable output to control the volume from the system or will there not be enough gain? Alternatively, I also have a Logitech Squeezebox which has a variable volume control. Can I go straight from the Squeezebox into the Lux or again, is there not going to be enough gain?
