OK I think, thx to Thorsten, there is an explanation for the buzzing case: the cover is magnetic (steel) and the higher currents (thus flux) used in the LCR cause the cover to vibrate sympathetically. Lining the contacting edge with foam or such can help, but I'll get made some non-magnetic covers. Strange thing is we have difficulty recreating the problem here.
Soon as I get the covers I'll post a message. It'll take a few weeks.
