My LCR Cole improved audibly over the first 50 hours even though I used a Frycleaner through a inverse RIAA network for the initial 24 hour break-in. I think with the black gates there will be a less drastic but continuing improvement up to around 500 hours.
My power transformer made so much noise, I could hear it in the next room. Not acceptable for listing. First I tried lining the power supply chassis with sheets of EAR IsoDamp. That helped a little. Then I used mortite clay between the transformer and chassis top. This pretty much eliminated the noise. I used enough mortite so that I had to press down on the top to squish the mortite until the screw holes lined up. I did not have the power supply buzz issue with the regular Cole that I built and owned previously.
I was able to get the least amount of hum by floating the LCR Cole safety ground (do so at your own risk). Interesting as this was not necessary with the regular Cole.
I'm working on a review that I will post shortly. So far I'm really impressed. I've owned many, much more expensive phono stages over the years. I've also built and used the regular Cole. Both the regular and LCR Cole are outstanding bargains.
I'm currently using a Dynavector XX-2 moving coil and have also had good results with my Denon 103R.
