Thx for posting. I know it takes a lot time to organize and write, and at the risk of incoming. Surprising we've had few reports posted on the LCR. it has quietly grown in popularity to be one of our 4 top selling kits.
Grounding: we test each unit and self noise is very low. However grounding is very unpredictable as so many grounding schemes and environment factors enter. Glad the connection to the ground post did it for you.
Not sure about the teflon cap question as the coupling caps values are too large for teflons, but I received your email and will reply.
PS case buzz. Yes it seems in some situations this can happen. We have a variac here and we test at voltage of destination but it seems there are other factors. One may be the cover is just the right size to vibrate sympathetically with teh transformer. The tx itself is vacuum impregnated with varnish so paltes can not make noise and the core is over sized. In some cases it may be DCv on the mains line but we actually include a DC blokker in the tx case now so it shouldn't be an issue. However there are harmonics and clipped sine waves and other issues that can cause noise. You could try damping the cover so it can not vibrate.
With regards to sound: since it uses inductors, it is like running in an output transformer to hear the full potential so expect it to get better and better. Also you've noted the Blackgate issue.
