It is best if you can follow the indicated connection for AC and cathode etc. Cathode resistor should stay the same
But the main thing is AC input voltage needs to be about 1.5v above required DC output voltage. It can vary somewhat depending on current draw. You can measure the actual AC V in. By chance it might be high enough to allow driving the tubes at a voltage a little less than spec'd 6.3, you'd need to try. You can tell if there isn't enough headroom as noise will go up.
