it actually makes some sense why the 4ohm could sound better with a 8ohm speaker on it. The load reflected through the OPT becomes effectively twice as large. ie 5k to 10k. This is a more linear load and the damping factor of the amp also doubles. Or it could just match the speakers impedance dips better. Worth a shot,, doesn't hurt anything.
I have b&w 602s2; like a very large bookshelf speaker. Don't use them in a main system anymore, but they are not half bad at what they do. There is definitely something to b&w's. Its too bad they are so current hungry and kind of a difficult load for a tube amp (depending on model). I had no problem with 15-20W in a smallish room though.
thanks again for the report and nice job on your hifi pages. i kinda stopped modding my ella but its nice to see other ideas. yours looks absolutely killer with those new opts. never got around to trying other opts.. wonder if plitron toroidals would fit under those covers??
