Seems Rek-O-Kut is alive and well, tipped by the poster below.

Looks interesting and maybe a bargain with a $490 Jelco arm. Anyone heard it?

For my $1300, I would choose a Technics 1200, also available new. Even better, as I can fabricate, and enjoy vintage used gear, I'd search out a Technics SP-10 MkII or III. The SP-10 has more torque, the lowest rumble around, and instant start-up and stopping. SP-10s were the ultimate studio tables. Huge, dense bases and long arms will increase the price, though.

Belt Drive vs. Idler vs. Direct drive is a major decision. No doubt that there are too many opinions about this. I say they are all valid, implemented properly. Cartridge choice is so important, though. Some of the more modern carts exhibit ruthless high freq extension. Thus, scratchy discs and bright sounding repro can become a problem. Choose carefully and ENJOY !!!

if not such a "DIY" type person.

I second the recomendation of the SP-10 MKII/MKIII.

I have 2 SP-10 MKII's, on with the factory obsidian plinth, one without (I sold the plinth, and it's awaiting the building of a slate plinth).

Great table!

It's all about the music!

Note the SP-10Mk2 has a LOT more torque than the regular SP-10 [nt], posted on November 8, 2009 at 15:12:17
