It will be released November 23, assuming that date holds.

I was pretty excited when I read that the first 4 LP's would be out 11/23, but Musicdirect has the 200gr release as "TBD" and the 140gr as 11/23. Sure hope we see them this year!

He's pretty close to these releases, so I don't know why he wouldn't be aware of the dates. He told me what vinyl is coming out this year and this wasn't one of them.

Follow-up - he said it's possible that WB isn't distributing these LPs, so that might explain why they aren't on his release schedule. So 11/23 may be right on.

I talked to Tom Biery and he said Warner is distributing them but the 180 box set is only going to be available starting on November 24th through their website (the link) and Neil Young's website. And it's a limited release. The 140's are going through the regular Warner distribution network. The box set is selling for 150

$150 for four records? That's a little much for me.

I agree that's a little pricey in these bad times. I wonder if there's any need to go for the 180 gram versions though? According to the Elusive Disc website, the 4 titles are also available on 140 gram editions for $22.99 so I may go for those. I already have 'Harvest' on a Japan Warner Pioneer pressing and a German 'After the Gold Rush'. The only one I don't have is the first one. They can all be bought individually it seems, so I don't think I'll go for the box. In any configuration, 180 gram/140 gram/Box Set, they should be well worth picking up.

I was thinking/hoping it may have been some previously unavailable material on LP, not yet another re-issue of common (though wonderful) titles.

The next NYA Performance Series vinyl release Dreamin Man is scheduled for a January release. It’s from the solo acoustic shows Young did as a build-up to Harvest Moon. If it’s as good as Massey Hall and Sugar Mountain, and it should be, it will be a good one to get.

The 180 box set is more of a collector's item. From what I've heard Young made sure that everything from packaging to pressing to sound was the best it could be. I'm getting one.

According to Elusive Disc, these are pressed at the Pallas plant in Germany!, posted on November 5, 2009 at 22:18:53

I recieved an advertisement from Music Direct a couple days ago and this record series was one on their page for sale.

They were advertising the albums as singles, with all the accolades of what made up the quality...and mentioned they were printed at the Pallas plant in Germany...

These, I assume were the lighter Lp's and their release date was Nov. 23

I checked again yesterday, and they have since taken out the part about being pressed at Pallas on the advertisent, so I would assume that the lighter vinyl is pressed at RTI...

I wonder if the mistaken quote about being pressed at the Pallas plant was meant for the 180 gram vinyl? That would be excellent if true.

All the Archive releases (both vinyl and CD) have been first class and I'm happy and grateful that N.Y. has
sucessfully done such a great job: a job worthy of the wealth of the fine and classic material that comprises
these releases.

The songs got the love they deserve.

The individually remastered CD titles (N.Y., After the Gold Rush, etc.) are certainly nice as well.
I was a bit leary of the Archive Box (already having most of the material) but am glad I bought a (used) CD copy.

I look forward to Dreamin' Man, but an expensive box set of titles I already own (multiple copies of many on vinyl... and CD) is overkill at this point.

I like collectibles that have achieved and evolved to that status over time.

I'm not one to get very excited over a manufactured (or contrived) "collectible".

Then again I've been known to change my mind!

I just have an original and the Nautilus of Harvest and originals of the other three. I'm looking forward to a comparison listen.

I also like to support those like Warner who are doing their best to release some high quality vinyl, so that’s also a reason I’m getting the box set. That and I’d like to think some of the profit will make its way into Young’s LincVolt project :)

All very good reasons and factors that may well play into a change of my mind.

I have an even dozen different versions of his first four LPs, which is less than I had originally thought...

And the new pressings probably have much better sound quality than most of my copies (back to the "audiophile" aspect).

Hmmmm...

Good grief, I actually feel my willpower starting to slip - and the box hasn't even been released yet!

Time to change the subject! Thanks for your input and the link!

The 180 gram versions of these titles are only available in the box and the box is only available on two websites- BecauseSoundMatters.com and NeilYoung.com.

The $34.99 Neil Young vinyl version of Harvest, is the 140 gram version. Given that the 180 gram and 200 gram copies of Neil records in retail at the moment are in the high 30 to mid 60 dollar range per title- this box is a pretty amazing deal. Each box has been gold foiled stamped and each individual jacket as well. There are only 3000 copies of this box world wide- numbered 0001 through 3000.

Please see the press release below.

DATELINE — Burbank, CA — As part of its ongoing Archives reissue campaign with legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young, Reprise Records will release re-mastered versions of the first four of Young’s classic solo albums, 1969’s Neil Young and Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, 1970’s After the Gold Rush, and 1972’s Harvest.

These very special reissues, which will be available on November 24th, have each been re-mastered from the original analog master tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios in Hollywood, CA.
The albums are being reissued on both vinyl and compact disc.

The individual albums are being issued on 140 gram vinyl to retail.
There is also a box set of the four albums pressed on audiophile 180 gram vinyl.
Vinyl will be pressed at Pallas MFG/Germany—the world’s premiere record-pressing plant.

The box sets will be individually numbered in gold foil stamp and strictly limited to 3,000 units worldwide. They will only be available through www.becausesoundmatters.com and www.neilyoung.com.

Tom Biery, General Manager of Warner Bros. Records and vinyl enthusiast commented: ”In all my years of working vinyl releases, I was shocked at just how incredible these Neil Young re-masters sound. There is no doubt in my mind that when listening to these recordings on the new, upgraded vinyl format, it will be as close as anyone will audibly come to actually being in the studio listening to the original master tapes. It now sounds as if you are in the room with Neil during the session.

The four albums will also be released on 24 karat gold CDs, packaged in Gary Burden designed cardboard wallet packs. The four gold CD albums are housed in a numbered slip case, limited to 2,500 worldwide, and available only through www.becausesoundmatters.com and www.neilyoung.com.
All four titles have already been released to retail on standard CDs, housed in jewel boxes.

On June 2nd, Reprise Records released Young’s highly anticipated collection Archives Volume 1 1963-1972—the first of several in the Archives series of CD box sets that focus on the life of one of the most original artists of the rock era. This collection, which is also available on Blu-Ray and DVD, is currently in stores. Of Young’s Archives series, the Chicago Sun-Times has written: “Not only is it absolutely amazing, it quite possibly is a model for the only kind of recorded product that independent and chain stores alike will still be selling in the post-CD future.” Raved the Chicago Tribune: “The Archives appears to be nothing less than revolutionary in how it will present an artist's back catalog.”

The Archives Volume 1 1963-1972 covered Neil Young’s recorded career up to and including his first four album releases.
