Vol. 6 of the complete piano works, Julius Katchen. Transcendental music (surprising me, who used to be so anti-Brahms - when I was about 19 listening to the first piano concerto made me feel ill) and terrific piano playing/recording. I have all the volumes of this series, this is just the first one I cleaned. Better get off my duff.

Just scored the Brahms PC2/Katchen on Decca SXL. Gonna spin it. I have the all-too-well-known Rachmaninov PC2/Katchen/Solti on Decca too, one of my favourite versions.

Oh man, there's some stuff that's gorgeous, (the piano "pieces" and Intermezzi) and some is a little dry, IMHO, posted on November 3, 2009 at 22:04:42

I've always been fond of Glenn's Intermezzi.

Oh, Katchen's Brahms is excellent! I like Radu Lupu on late Brahms a lot, the introspective intermezzos, the Opus 118 especially. And for some reason, I always thought Rubinstein's Chopin overrated yet his Brahms underrated...
