I just ordered a pack of 25 3-48, 1/2" solid brass machine screws from smallparts.com for $6.18 incl shipping. That leaves 11 pairs available at $50/pair plus S&H, plus 3% for Paypal.

For my Sonata. It arrived w/o and I didn't know the size.

It was kinda fun reading the archives to see if someone had posted the size. 12 or so posts, none with the size, most wrote, "call Grado", kinda imparting the idea that magic cartridge screws are some one-off size rather than part of a thread sequence that has existed since Sid Caesar first discovered fire.

Others suggested that they'll just send you some for free. Not! But the nice lady on the phone (and she is very friendly and helpful) will send you a wooden stylus guard for $25.

For everyone's benefit, Grado wood-body screws, as above, are 3-48, 1/2"; that's English size 3 with a pitch of 48 turns per inch. And that's why the words "Grado", "cartridge" and "screws" are in my header.

I couldn't have told you the size or pitch, only that threaded Grado bodies are different that European or Japanese cartridges.

Growing old is hell related former youth.

How did you determine the size?, posted on November 3, 2009 at 16:24:21
