Looks like a viable and cost-effective alternative to Zerostat and Furutech Destat. You just replace the can of compressed air when empty.

Did you guys see this on Vinyl Engine?? Looks possible . . ., posted on November 6, 2009 at 10:23:51

to get the furutech effect, you would need a powerful magnet. Strangely, powerful industrial magnets for demagnetizing cost about $500.

I had Milty zerostats forever, when the last one broke, I did not worry about it. Wash your records with an RCM and the problem largely goes away. No need for the Zerostat or the "Aerostat".

If you're looking for a cost-effective alternative to the Furutech, I've
had good luck with a Simco Aerostat A300 (a benchtop ionized air blower
often used during pcb assembly to minimize dust and static issues).

It's not attractive, but with the flip of a switch, you can bathe your
entire rack with ionized air. I got mine, used, on ePay for about $40,
delivered.

Yes, the zerostat is about the same price and does not require the air canister. It works great--hard to improve on it.

I'm not so worried about safety or dust being scattered about, but maybe that's just with my setup.

What I don't understand is the price - yowza! It doesn't seem cost-effective at all. I didn't see anything on how long it will last, but my Zerostat is about the same price and lasts a loooong time.

I wouldn't use it..., posted on November 3, 2009 at 10:41:25

suspect..as the flow of the air itself would cause charges to the record.

I can think of other reasons not to use it:

Don't want dust scattered around, as it would not just move it "from" the record, but probably move dust back onto the record.

Imagine the damage it could cause if you accidently "blasted" your tonearm, or your stylus?

I preffer the tried and true.

Canned air is just a bad concept, except for a few highly specialized high tech uses where there is no practical substitute.

Even without the very valid objections you mention, it just seems too trash intensive. There are plenty of good ways to blow clean air without canning it.
