Somebody deranged hippy must have bought a spare copy of this album back in 'bout '68 and sent it forward through time for me to enjoy in my dotage! I can't recall; some of the people had drugs then, however...

So many of this vintage RCA orange-label super-lightweight vinyl LP's are terribly noisy - perhaps a sad legacy of the Dynagroove thing... What were they thinking!?

Great album though- and decent sound, if lacking in depth / dynamics. Casady's playing opend my ears to a new world. I love listening to him stretch out in 'Star Track' - very Tuna-y

I'm a big fan of this group and in particular that LP. I play their "After Bathing At Baxters" lp just as often. If you can find an original White Dog RCA label you will be rewarded with much improved fidelity.

Still spinnin'...

Hi,

Great stuff as usual.. I remember watching that John Carpenter flick in the theater ~30 years ago (as a kid), it was great fun. Obviously different in tone than the more accliamed The Thing and Starman..

So how was the mastering and pressing quality of The Fountain?

The vinyl looks stunning as you may be able to see. This soundtrack is one of my absolute favorite and most dynamic soundtracks. I petitioned for years to see its release on vinyl.

The sound on my copy however, is another story. The music ebbs and flows with extremely soft passages and then roars with the sound of the cosmos. It is during the softer passages that I can her quite plainly what sounds like groove wear. This is completely unacceptable and I have written for recompense.

Mondo has been an excellent company so I look forward to satisfaction.

Still spinnin'...

Oh yeah. Heavy on the Morricone plus the neatly packaged Twin Peaks from Death Waltz via Mondo.

Thanks for the additional photos.. I actually gave The Fountain OST on vinyl a 'heads up' here months ago =).. I hope it's more of the luck of the draw re: groove wear sounding in silent passages... Unfortunate for such a deluxe release. I hope Mondo makes good on your case.

BTW, love the "Low" pin button..
