I always liked the look of the GrooverTracer counterweight.
So now suddenly this is what i 'need'.
I do not need it at all.. But nevertheless i 'need' it.
Maybe for Christmas I'll buy it as a gift to my turntable. LOL.

IME get the sub. The weight is one of those "finishing touch" mods.
The sub will be the most noticeable of the 2. Heard zero difference with only replacing the weight. Maybe depends on actual sub mfg tolerances-how imperfect it actually is.
I modded then got a VPI.

Sell or trade it for an RP-8. With dust cover!

You know you want to do it. It will make a great xmas gift for yourself.
Great products, well made and they do improve the sonics.

I've been going back-and-forth on these upgrades as well; but first, I was going to upgrade the tonearm wiring (Cardas or Ingognito) for my RB-303. In your opinion, is the subplatter upgrade more of a difference maker? Thanks :)

Beyond sub and a mc cart, IME other mods are very subtle(if any)sonic enhancers. Anything under a P7 has the plastic sub which is a weakness.
Unless you want a lab project, wouldn't go further than that.

Yes, I noticed the RP6 has a metal subplatter, I assumed that was a performance enhancing move, as well as the thicker glass platter and the turntable power supply unit. With the Rega Exact it was double the cost of the RP3 which I have. I actually downgraded (in terms of retail value) the cartridge to one I like better but everything else is stock. Even the tonearm height spacer is a controversial upgrade if you ask Gandy, but the DL-110 sounds great tail down anyway. However, he uses a metal subplatter in the RP6, P7 and up as you said, so I may go that route--eventually :)

Actually the RP6 subplatter is a metal cap over a phenolic subplatter so it isn't really all metal. I think you would be happy with the subplatter upgrade. The RB303 doesn't really need a rewire. I think that only the older
RB250,RB300 benefit from that. I actually used a Denon DL110 for a while with my P5. It is a great cartridge. I am using it now on my JVC QL-A7
in my living room system.

Do I need it at all?

No. Save your money to buy more bird food.

Yes! You're correct, I thought it was totally metal which I would think cost less to make as the cap requires bonding to a shaved phenolic subplatter. It makes that process needlessly complicated unless there are in fact some sonic benefits in combining the two materials. In any case, the aftermarket metal subplatter on the right(courtesy of ProperlyDeafened and the vinylengine) looks more substantial. It looks like the platter height is affected? As for the tonearm re-wire I was planning to do, I think I'll hold off on that now. Thanks for that advice :)

I could not believe how good the bone stock RP6 sounded. Better than P9!

It's probably the first Rega I was impressed by even with their MM cartridge.

I have it all. What do you want to know?
All has been answered on the "Rega" vinyl engine boards. Check it out.

Black Lacquered P5

This has the PS with double pulley and white belts.

On the right is the GT sub-platter frank makes for the P6. It will not affect the height, same dimensions.

Is it the same weight? It looks like it's heavier, and I'm wondering how that might cause premature motor failure. But then again, if the bearing has less friction, probably not. Also, I noticed the spindle is taller, probably to accomodate a wider range of clamps. But then again, I've read in here how clamps aren't recommended for Regas. Do you use one?

I do not use a clamp on the GT Delrin Platter.
I do use Herbie's "Super Sonic Stabilizer".

Don't know the weight difference on that sub for the P6 but I know it's jeweled bearing is better than Regas. I would not worry about motor stress.
