Hi,

I've pretty much finished rebuilding a Fisher X-100-A integrated amp and it sounds great. During the rebuild I took capacitor C4 out of the circuit, thinking it was only for noise reduction. Looking into it a bit, it looks like it might be potentially dangerous to remove this cap. Is it essential for safety reasons? Would I be better off removing it and installing a modern day 3-prong plug with a proper ground? I just want to make sure this thing is safe to use. Thanks.

Bill

I would not put a 3 prong plug on it-

Happy Listening

I may be confusing this with the "death" cap which I don't think this is...nt, posted on December 27, 2016 at 19:49:51

...noise suppression primarily. Death is on primary side, line to chassis. I'd be inclined to keep the cap in question in circuit but using a modern and conservatively rated part.

I'm with Steve - I use 1600 volt caps in that position BTW. The stock voltage is usually 600 volts on vintage gear which I consider too low.I also only use good brands like Panasonic, CDE, etc.
