I have a GAS Son and Hafler XL 280, both good SS amps with imperfect traits, but which I use as 2nd system amps.

Recently, a friend's son wanted to try a more powerful amp, so I loaned him the Hafler, which was powering the office (3rd) system with a PS Audio IVH preamp.

I brought in my Son, and wow, it sounded great. Tube-like liquidity and still with power to spare. This PM, turned it on, and it made a turn on noise (like always) but louder. Tried it two more times, but no sound. Just some hiss. This is similar to what happened a while back. My cousin (a tech) found some transistors and replaced regulation?

Do you people know how to check this out easily? I don't know how to check inside. Maybe he'll be willing again, but it took him time to find the replacement transistors, and he won't charge me (doesn't feel right imposing on him). I live in San Bernardino county area in SoCA.

Hi,

If you're in Southern California you're lucky to have Mike Zuccaro in San Diego.

He can work on any GAS equipment. Highly recommended.

Good Luck ,

AJ

thanks, I have met him once and might call and describe the issue to him.

Might want to contact the designer...., posted on November 5, 2009 at 17:55:03

I know that Jim Bongiorno does work on these occasionally.

Cheers,

David

Thanks, the last time I tried that, he emailed me that the design was essentially "old" and to send it to his friend in Minnesota. Then later a few people had him work on it.

I'm a bit frustrated. There is another amp which is NM in appearance, stored in my family's home. Non GASworked.

Where is Mike Bettinger nowadays? Seems he's gone.

Ok, dead end, I suppose...., posted on November 6, 2009 at 15:31:11
