Came back from lunch and gave craigslist a quick scan - newly listed was a pair of Seeburg Discotheque DDS1 speakers for $100 - I immediately made the call and went to see them - the cabinets and grills were trashed but hopefully the internals are OK and I can part them out.

They have two 15" Utahs and an Altec Lansing horn in each box - each box weighs 172 pounds.......

Possibly more imprssive than my "score" was that the guy I bought them from and I were able to load them into the back of my Honda Element. What a vehicle!

Nice score. NT, posted on November 3, 2009 at 13:32:14

Huge boxes ! It must be nice to have spacious rooms. The crossover should be examined. How many elements are inside the xover ? Can you upgrade the caps in the xover ? Are there iron core trannies in the xover, as opposed to air core coils ? Since there are 806A tweets inside(Altec's best of the smaller diaphragm tweet),I suspect a simple xover, which will help the image/3D ability of these huge speakers. Iron core coils in xovers tend to suck efficiency, requiring more power than expected. How about shooting a pic of these cool monsters for the vintage crowd to appreciate ???
