Does anyone remember this? Was it worthwhile to do this adjustment? I have never done it, and tried to read the instructions, but cannot really understand it that well.

Reason I ask is I switched out my GAS Son of Amp in place of the Hafler in my office system, and the former seems more sweet and "full" and more "tube like."

A friend wants to try out the Hafler, because he bought a pr of Polk LSi15's from CL cheap. He's using a Sony STR D-915 AVR now.

docw, that "Excelinear adjustment" was supposed to be a high frequency null. Stereophile's late founder, J. Gordon Holt, reviewing Hafler's XL-280 in 'phile's 25th Anniversary Silver Issue, Volume 10 Number 1, discovered that "while trying to null out the white-noise input signal that I noticed two odd things. First, the residual(un-nulled) sound differs markedly in spectral content on both sides of the null point. To one side of maximum null, the entire spectrum above the lower midrange increases in level; to the other side of null, the residual sounded primarily like midrange energy. The Excelinear trim adjustment seemed asymmetrical in its action, producing a different quality of residual sound on each side of the null point. Additionally, instead of nulling only the high end, as it is supposed to, adjusting the trim seemed also to change the pitch of the upper midrange & middle high range. Thus, getting maximal null involves a little judgment, as well as a sensitive ear".

I have that issue at home in fact, but never attempted this procedure.

I loaned the amp to my friend's son, driving his new Polk LSi15's, haven't heard yet. He was excited. Probably will need a preamp.
