Ya, I know a subject line like that is just asking for trouble :-)

I'm actually referring to the little Realistic TM-1000 tuner I picked up yesterday at the local MCC thrift store. I had a couple of minutes to burn and couldn't resist this little vintage unit I found in pristine condition. The $8 price tag was more than reasonable and then found out that "pink tags" were half-price when I got to the cash register!

So today I hooked it up to a virtually matching Realistic SA-2000 integrated amp that I found in similar fashion last year and added a pair of early Celestions. What a treat! I've had so much fun this afternoon listening to the little system on my workbench and that for less than the cost of starbuck's coffee! God I love this hobby!

possibly Hitachi OEM. The next model "year" R/S tuner (TM-1001, see pp 16-17 in http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/catalogs/1979/) definitely was and is something of a sleeper (although less so since Google tells everybody everything).

Flip to pg. 17 of the link below for the skinny on the TM-1000...
all the best,

Funny, with the autotune system, I always suspected Onkyo as it had the quart lock system for its receivers that operated in the same manner.

Hey thanks...nifty site with the catalogue!

Looking down through the ventilation grill, I can see that it has some Toshiba branded components .....

Ya gotta admit...that combo sounds pretty damn good. In their day they were overlooked. Excellent! Good for you!

The thing is...not only do they sound fantastic, but they are truly very nice cosmetically as well! The dual power meters of the amp and the signal strength meter / station dial of the tuner in that wonderful blue makes for such nice eye candy :-)
