Howdy- I need an antenna I can put up in my attic to pick up my favorite radio station. Currently I'm using a Godar DXR-1000 omni-directional telescoping whip ,my favorite station is comming in strong but I'm getting a lot of multipath distortion and the stereo signal noise floor is high, sounds good in Mono, hard to listen to in stereo due to the noise while the DJ talks.

I can not put up an antenna outdoors or rooftop and I don't have the attic space for an APS 13 antenna.
My tuner is a recently aligned Accuphase T-100.

thanks in advance for any help on choosing an antenna to point at my favorite radio station to cut down on multipath distortion.

Cheers,
Robert

depends how big your attic is and if it has a diagonal that roughly points AT that station's transmitter., posted on November 8, 2009 at 11:35:22

Even for a beam style Yagi to fit when aimed at the station.

Follow the suggestions in my most recent 'getting started' post, with maps and etc, and the lambda calculations for that station, and then you will know how much room you really have.

You might get lucky and find that you can fit a wire rhombic in, and then if you make it with twin-ribbon aka 300-ohm cable, it will have twice the gain that the dimensions of your attic allow for with a single wire example. And if it is still a bit noisy you simply add another, one inch above it, until it is quiet.

You are going to have to do some research, and planning and thinking.

If you want the old Audio article about rhombics, email me.

robert --i use a magnum dynalabs st-2 --it is a whip antenna i live 30 miles out to sea and it works $110.00-this uses coaxial cable-put a signal booster as close to antenna as possible-a good cheap way is believe it or not-- rabbit ears-- either right at your tuner but better in the attic-- i think ten bucks at radio shack---a good site for advice --type in NPR improving reception somewhere in there you will find some straight forward advice--howie nair

he's already got a whip!? why would another non-adjustable whip be any better, posted on November 8, 2009 at 11:56:56

You are simply lucky with your reception conditions.

It sounds like an ideal solution for you, especially since you're only after one station.

The only draw-back is it involves DIY. The good part is it's not a difficult DIY and the satisfaction you'll get will only be exceeded by the FM reception you'll get. Sounds like a win-win situation to me!

If radio shack still sells their 6-pole Yagi, try to get one of those. Smaller than the APS-9, cheap and cheerful. I've used one in my attic for many years, pointed at a weak station I favor and the tail pointing toward my city's primary antenna farm, and it works pretty well in my high-multipath canyon setting. Would be better still if I got a rotor, but that's a difficult move for now.
