Yuck $1300 bones is kinda steep.. I just bought a mint Accuphase T-100 ..I'll stick with that. But 47 Labs radio sure is purty.

Cheers and Happy Halloween!

Nowadays for a tuner that is a lot of money. And while I'm a big fan of 47 Labs they've never been shy about what they charge for something.

Funny thing is this tuner and their new DAC are the launching of their new entry level line, Midnight Blue. Still waiting for the stuff that's geared for us in the cheap seats.

Maybe being all analog costs this much. I know that digital tuners are can be pretty cheap and that can create a perception that all tuners can and should be low cost. But a really good to great tuner can cost some coin, as I'm sure you found out getting that Accuphase. (BTW, fantastic tuner).

Given the current state of radio in the U.S. can any tuner experts out there please give us any thoughts on the value of paying extra for an all analog tuner vs a digital one?

For me personally radio is a main source to me so I need something that sounds great and has a full remote option. But dagnabit after seeing a picture of this beauty I want it! Real bad. Bet it sounds really yummy too.

Looks nice, Is it REALLY an anologue tuner or is it a synthesiser 'digital display' type pretending to be, posted on October 11, 2009 at 16:45:05

Only a very little, it is good that the designer is a Kenwood tuner chap., posted on October 13, 2009 at 12:34:43

Of course if you believe idiots - like CDB - who'd rather run a tuner without an antenna at all, and just KNOWS that KENWOOD made crap equipment, you'd not see how positive it might be for this new little blue box.

There was also a lot of drivel about how wonderful all digital audio is .....

Yes, you can still buy FM chip sets - stereo decoders and FM tuners on a chip.

This thing will be a basic Electronics 101 FM radio with stereo decoder and have all the hype : ''ONLY THE SIMPLEST CAN ACCOMMODATE THE MOST COMPLEX'' crap.

It reminds me of that cute little Sony tuner, posted on October 12, 2009 at 08:06:16

from the '70s(?) that had a circular dial. Couldn't find it on FMtunerinfo. Anybody remember it and the model number? It was tall and narrow, about 1.5 times the size of a Tivoli PAL.

See link below :-)

Oaktree has a pretty good photo: http://www.oaktreevintage.com/web_photos/Stereo_Tuners/Sony_ST-80W_Stereo_Tuner_web.jpg

Radio Shack had a similar little tuner, TM-175(B). Inexplicably, I have one of these!

See http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/catalogs/1974/ page 15 for a photo and blurb on the R/S tuner.

The Sansui TU-666 and 555 tuners were closer to full-sized components albeit with small, round veriner-tuned dials instead of slide rules. And of course most of the vintage HH Scott tube tuners had round scales.

all the best,
mrh

Hi, Travis:

It also reminds me of a Sansui 777 tuner I own.
