On 12/26 I purchased a Musical Paradise MP-D2 DAC ---{you can check it out at the link below}--- This DAC comes stock with a Shuguang 6Z5P rectifier tube, that you can use in the 6.3V position along with the 6X5. Or else I can select the 5V position and use either a 5R4, 5AR4, 5U4G, 5Y3 or a GZ34 tube.

Also I was told if I can use a 5U4G tube I can use a 274B tube as well! Is that true? If It is I wonder why it wasn't listed. So would someone with more knowledge about rectifier tubes than I have please tell me which of all these rectifier tubes listed, you'd use and why you'd choose that specific tube? Also if you know of another tube you prefer, that can replace any of these tubes, please let me know about that tube as well! TIA

Yes, you can use a 274B as a sub for the 5U4G in the 5v position.

Hello again SET!

I saw those preferred series 274B/5U4G for $33.95 @ The Tube Store. Is that what you'd buy? I also saw these:

Psvane WE274B $210 per tube.
Psvane 274B-T MKII $155 per tube.
Psvane HIFI 274B $95 per tube.

Shuguang WE274B $100 per tube.
Shuguang HiFi 274B $25 per tube.

FullMusic 274B/N/+ $225 per tube.
FullMusic 274B/N $128 per tube.
FullMusic 274B $118 per tube.

Howdy Tom,

I'm using Full Music perforated plate 274A's, a 4 pin version that is no longer produced. I got 5 of them for a great price from a fellow in Chiefland, FL of all places. My amp has a UX4 socket for 5Z3 or 80 rectifiers. Electrically thee 274A is the same as the current perforated plate Full Music 274B. I prefer the 274A my amp, which can use any 5 volt rectifier, to any of the rectifiers I have. I suggested the Preferred Series based on price and reviews.

The Full Music 274B/N/+ draws 4 amps. I have not tried any of the other tubes you listed.

Les

Only Western Electric made a 274B.

All the Chinese tubes with the 274B label are variations on the 5U4. While they might make your amplifier sound fine, they are not really 274B tubes. If you check these Chinese 274B tube's specifications against the actual 274B specifications in the Western Electric Tube Data book, you will find many differences. If you check the specs. for the Psvane WE274B 1:1 Replica for which there is the ridiculous assertion that "Even the production humidity and temperature are followed 100% to ensure the complete replication" you will find that while they may have the humidity and temperature correct, the actual specifications of the tube differ (heater current, max plate voltage and current, length and width of the glass envelope).

The Chinese sell a lot of 274B labeled tubes that may sound good and some may even sound something like a 274B, just don't think you are buying a real 274B or that silk screening a tube with 274B turns the 5U4 into something magical.

I don't think anyone expects a WE274B which at $1500 or so better be magic.

I would skip the 274B and use Tung Sol 5U4GB. Best 5U4 I ever heard. I suspect they will sound better than the new 274Bs.

The 274B sounds better in mine than the TS. There is no silver bullet tube.

Full Music, yeah it's not a real 274B but I prefer it to the TS 5U4GB in my rig.
