I run a primaluna prologue 2 modded with auricaps and a hi-fi tunning fuses. I run goldlion kt-88's and mullard 4003's I also run gold lion 12ax7's or tungsol reissue ecc803s gold pins. My friend dropped by for a drink and to shoot the bull as they say and enjoy some music. I had the tungsols in at the time. We listened to a few songs and he asked me if he could try a pair of tubes out. I let the amp cool and took out the mullard 4003's and put in cbs hytron 5814's red lettering with black plates and a bent square getter. These tubes sounded fantastic the were sweet with nice air great tight full bass and very natural sounding I was very very impressed. I thought they sounded somewhat like my 4003's but more refined. very nice tubes.

I have tried all various 5814 including the Hytron and 12au7 and for some reason keep going back to the RCA BP 5814.

That tube is the best USA manufactured 12AU7 series IMO. Only the Brimar 13D5 may outperform it. The CBS is a little warmer sounding than the Brimar.

Friend

This tube is very nice, I have a lot of these.
Other fine tube is the Raytheon 5814A black plates.
But the GE and RCA 5814 black plates play fine, too.

My experiences exactly with both of those tubes.
