Mike Samra got me interested in the 6n3ce's, tried it in a Marantz 8b, was able to bias without any circuit changes (turn bias down using built-in meter).

They take a few days of burning in, maybe even longer. Listening with planar speakers, high end is very very good. Will give them a few more days and graph the frequency curve.

I don't believe the simple, objective frequency response will be really any different using 6N3C-es than when using EL34s because the 8B design uses a decent dose of NFB. Since the basic characteristics of the 6P3C-e are rather different than those of an EL34 (plate resistance, beam tetrode vs pentode etc.), I expect that the real differences will be in parameters such as max power output at a given distortion level, max power freq resp, distortion spectra and so on. Unless you have the specialized test equipment, audible sonic differences and overall listening satisfaction might end up being more meaningful test. Actually, even if you do have the equip, listening satisfaction is probably the more important test.

That is really interesting, now I am very curious what I am hearing.

One other time I tried a similar substitution, can't recall the readily available inexpensive tube for a KT66, there is someone that has been selling them for years with an adapter kit because the pinout was different. Amplifiers I tried them in also had quite a bit of negative feedback, but the result was significantly attenuated midrange.

If I figure this out, will let you know.
