Anyone heard about this? A new tube from the old Mullard plant in Blackburn, supposed to be a plug in replacement for the 12AX7, but using planar valve technology. Versions of other tubes in the 12A_7 series are supposedly on the way. Got an enthusiastic write-up in the latest issue of Hi Fi World, and a technical write-up in AudioXpress. Not inexpensive but cheaper than some vintage NOS. Link to the manufacturer website below. | |

Myself included. They are excellent tubes, with a sound that differs from any other 12AX7 type that I've heard. I did try to order more the day right after it was announced, but it happened so abruptly and the entire system (although it appears up and going) was immediately halted. I also hope that someone will start this facet up again, but it appears to be a long shot. All of their equipment is being auctioned off. The whole thing is such a sad story, in so many ways. Here's a good thread on the subject: TechTube thread at Gear Page Cory ![]() |
