What's best among E182CC, ECC99 and 5687 in a driver stage (with one 2A3) for a PSE 845 amp?
Attached the schematic...
V2 = 2A3
V3 = E182CC or 5687 or ECC99
V4 and V5 = 845

I believe you asked about tube substitution, not about modifying the amp.
My favorite susbtitute driver for your amp is Amperex or Phillips Holland E182cc, I also like Tung-Sol 5687.
Good luck

60's Saratov (diamond logo). Prefer them to all those you listed.

Why not put a 26 in the input to a 2a3 driver. Awful lot simpler and should sound better!

26? do you mean 226 aka 326 aka UY226 aka CX326?
is it a perfect replacement or should I modify the schematic?
do you have a data sheet?

Yes - 26, 226 and so on. I was just thinking of a 3 stage amp - any of the usual topologies. 26 is great with an IXYS cascode active load.

I don't suppose you'd consider the 6H30p in that lot of medium-mu/high gm twin triodes...is there? There is also the American 12FV7 too.
cheers,
Douglas

150Volta and 15ma, but you can go up a good bit....it doesn't sound quite as good, but probably the same as these...

to be really different with a different socket try 6BL7...also a great sounding tube...sylvania black plate

Good Luck,

I've been using 6H30P DRs to drive parallel 845s, (even into A2 on peaks) very successfully for more than 6yrs without a failure. They work well and sound good in gain stages too!
