I just bought an SONY TC-126, with an F-99s microphone, two SS-16 speakers and a hard case in (seemingly) immaculate condition for only $30.00.

The playback function works perfectly, but when i try to record something onto a blank cassette, the recording comes out very distorted and at a low volume.

When i go back and try to erase it, it does not erase at all.

Any suggestions on a problem and how to fix it?

I am a total newb, but am very passionate about analog recording.

PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!

99% sure: Bias circuit is not working.

Fix it?
I don't know the deck, but you would be lucky if the problem was a "bad contact" somewhere in the board, with a simple cleaning you would get the solution.

Otherwise you should check the circuit for broken/dead capacitors/transistors.
