I have a 7 year old NAD C-542 CD player. Lately, while listening to CDs from across my collection, I get a distorted sound coming through my Pardigm tower speakers. I've ruled out connection problems, cabling, etc. The sound is not unlike what you might get with a poor radio station connection. It's become more common in the last several months. I use the player every day for 4-5 hours so I wonder if the unit is simply reaching the end of life-cycle. On advice of local audio professionals I've not used lens cleaners, CD cleaners, etc.

I have one of those. Are you able to change how it's connected to your preamp or receiver? In other words, just use it as a transport, or instead, connect using analog cables. The opposite of whatever you're doing now. See what happens.
