These speakers came along with a Pilot 4300 tube receiver. They are 3-way acoustic suspension with a 12" woofer, 2 mids 3 1/2" and a 3 1/2" tweeter. I'm wondering who manufactured these speakers for Pilot and if anyone has any experience modifiying and improving these speakers? Thanks.........Conn

Thanks for the information. I will follow up on your suggestions. Yes, they do sound rather good except for the top end. And very nice walnut veneer cabinets. Thanks again.....Conn

I doubt any Weekend-EE *modifying* will *improve* them. Perhaps replace any electro-chemical constructed capacitors after all these years, clean any level controls of age-oxidation & re-do the woofer seal to cabinet afterwards (ordinary self-stick foam Door & Window weather-striping from a local Hardware store is ideal for this purpose). While exposed, the numbers on magnets will reveal who mfg the drivers: see Asylum Home page, scroll to sponsor Triode Electronics hyperlink & then their Other Triode Pages for an EIA-RETMA code number decipher. Pilot most likely *made* these speakers via out-sourcing the cabinet build, sourcing drivers from other mfg & then assembling everything in-house, just the same as most other speaker brands. Example: CTS drivers & enclosure design found their way into speakers made & marketed by Electro-voice, HHScott, Heath, & probably others. Same with Jensen drivers. And except for cosmetic differances like grill fabric or cabinet finshes & outward *style*, those speakers (examples above) were virtually identical.

my father in law has a pair of these. He has had them at least 30 years. As other poster stated, probably needs new caps in XO. Would need to look at woofer surround to see if it need to replace/recone. I would personally upgrade the tweeter. Contact Madisound and see what they say.

He did, two days ago, without response---

Pictures would help but those speakers may need new capacitors and they may sing. Woofer(s) issues really depends on the type of surround.
