Hi,
Anyone who has done a direct red-apple-to-green-apple comparison?
And in your view, is the premium of the SE worth it?
Appreciate your comments, thanks!

But I am still curious about the CS 2.4 standard version vs the SE version in terms of sonic quality.

I wonder if someone has really done a side-by-side comparison?

?????????

Have not heard the CS 2.4SE but I have the 3.7s (had 7.2s before that and 2.3s before that) and have helped set-up several pairs of 2.4s. The CS 2.4SE's are I think $8k list and for that I've seen used 3.7s. There are of course lots of speakers in the $8k range too. I'd love to hear them but I can't help think of the analogy of the old Cadillac Cimmeron. In the old days I believe Chevy had the Cavalier which was a decent dependable economy car. The Cadillac version was a souped up version with a very nice interior at something like a bit more than 1.5 times the price. Certainly not in my opinion worth the difference. The point is if you are going to pay that kind of premium go to Thiel's website and see where the nearest dealer is and give a listen.

...since you've lived with them both - don't forget to mention your room size and amplification.

I've not had the 2.4SE (nor have seen it but they are ltd. edition), but have set up several pairs of 2.4s in average to slightly above average sized rooms without a huge amp (e.g. Bryston 3BSST or Ayre or Levinson amps of a similar amount of power). I do have a very large room (16x20 with 19 ft. ceiling and opens into other spaces). With the 2.3s and 7.2s (and they are part of a Home Theater set-up), over the course of time I've had a old Bryston 4BST (which with the 7.2s was probably about as little as you can get by with), a Proceed HPA (500W into 4 ohms) and a Brsyton 14BSST with the 7.2s and now 3.7s. Thiels in general like power. The 14BSST is much better with the 3.7s vs. 7.2s. My take on the SE is that part of the price differential is at least due in part to being a ltd. edition. If you are buying it for that reason that is fine. If not, there may be other speakers to consider in the $8k price range, Thiel or others

Here's some additional info. From the article, part of the price premium would appear to be due to the fact it is a limited edition - http://www.enjoythemusic.com/SuperiorAudio/equipment/0409/thiel_cs24se.htm
