TDL RTL3 bass/mid drivers

Hi
I bought these speakers new in 1996 and in 1999 one of the mid/bass drive units went fuzzy, you could also hear a scratching noise if you pushed it in gently. I replaced it with a new one from Audacity. Recently another drive unit has done the same thing, but no-one (including Audacity and Lockwood) seems to have them any more.
I wonder if anyone knows a way to fix the problem that doesn't involve replacement, or if there is another driver that can be used, replacing all 4 if necessary and bearing in mind impedance is about 16 ohms per driver (2 in parallel = 8).
I've become quite attached to these speakers over the years!

Thanks!!

Do these have the cone in the centre of the driver which is stationary at all?

Hi Chris. The little cone in the centre of these moves in and out with the main cone. I know what you mean though as I've seen Missions where it is stationary.

It was Mission I had in mind. I used to have the Mission 752 Freedom floorstanders and they developed a distortion at certain frequencies after a period of time.

Turned out the cone was rubbing on the centre cone on the top edge, and once I removed the driver and turned it through 180 degrees, it eventually stopped as gravity centred the whole kit-caboodle.

Even though the TDL's don't have the stationary centre cone, it couldn't do any harm if you turned your drivers through 180 degrees in case anything has started rubbing where it shouldn't internally.

Hi Chris
I tried things like that before, also swapping the top and bottom drivers to confirm the sound and the rubbing were the same problem.
But I've had another go, and I have found a position that is a lot better than how it was and is liveable with until I decide what to do long term. Job problems stop me spending much money at the moment but still looking for replacement drivers.
Thanks for the advice.
